Where this sits

Manufactured in Australia.

The Lover is the thinning scissor in the Masuta range. Its 28 curved teeth and a 25–30% thinning rate place it in the soft-blend category — enough tooth count to remove bulk progressively without the hard blending lines that a lower-count thinner can leave.

Construction

OBU builds The Lover from Masuta Japanese steel with an offset handle and a convex edge on the solid blade. The 28 curved teeth are ground across the serrated blade; the curve on each tooth draws hair into the cut more evenly than a straight-tooth design, which contributes to a cleaner blending result at the 25–30% removal rate.

Thinning rate in practice

A 25–30% thinning rate removes roughly a quarter of the hair in each closed section. This is well-suited to volume reduction and general texturising across most hair types. For very fine hair where even that removal rate risks over-thinning, fewer passes achieve the result; for very dense or coarse hair, additional passes can be used without hard lines appearing.

Variants

A left-hand build of The Lover is available from OBU as a separate SKU.
