ScissorPedia Moves Fully to scissorpedia.com

ScissorPedia has completed its migration to scissorpedia.com — the permanent home for what has become the world’s largest independent scissors knowledge base.

A Brief History of Getting Here

This project started in 2008 as a shared spreadsheet. A handful of frustrated stylists wanted a single place to compare scissors specifications without relying on manufacturer marketing or retailer sales pitches. That spreadsheet grew unwieldy quickly — a sign that the demand for independent information far exceeded what a Google Sheet could handle.

In 2012, the spreadsheet became a dedicated research site. The format changed but the principle did not: document what is verifiable, flag what is not, and never accept manufacturer claims without independent corroboration.

Now, at scissorpedia.com, the project has its final home. All previous URLs redirect. All bookmarks still work. Nothing has been lost in the migration.

The Database Today

The numbers reflect years of incremental research rather than any shortcut:

  • 1,000+ product specifications — individually documented with steel type, blade geometry, handle configuration, sizes, country of manufacture, and pricing in six currencies
  • 216 brand profiles — from heritage Japanese manufacturers in Seki City to Solingen’s established houses, from Australian boutique makers to emerging Chinese producers
  • 244 technical references — steel compositions, blade types, edge geometries, handle ergonomics, finish technologies, and manufacturing processes
  • 98 professional guides — practical advice on selection, maintenance, sharpening, and technique-tool matching
  • 143 verified retailer directories — confirmed stockists with last-checked dates, because nothing is more frustrating than a dead retailer link

What Has Not Changed

The mission remains exactly what it was in 2008: provide independent, fact-checked information about professional scissors without manufacturer influence or affiliate bias.

ScissorPedia does not accept sponsored content. Brand profiles document what we can verify, not what manufacturers want published. Product specifications come from our own research, cross-referenced against multiple sources — we do not accept manufacturer-submitted data sheets at face value.

This independence is the reason ScissorPedia exists. The professional scissors market has no shortage of marketing. What it lacks — and what we try to provide — is a reliable, neutral reference that treats stylists as professionals capable of making their own informed decisions when given accurate information.

Thank You

To everyone who has contributed corrections, flagged outdated information, or simply used the site to make a more informed purchase: this project exists because of you. The spreadsheet was for a dozen people. The site serves thousands. The mission serves the same purpose it always has.
