ScissorPedia Passes 500 Product Specifications in Database
ScissorPedia has reached a significant milestone: 500 individually documented product specifications across more than 100 brands. Every entry in the database has been independently verified against manufacturer data — no marketing copy, no unsubstantiated claims, just documented specifications.
What Each Entry Includes
Every product in the ScissorPedia database is documented with a consistent set of specifications:
- Steel type: The specific grade (e.g., VG-10, AUS-8, 440C, SG-2) with composition details where available.
- Blade type: Convex, bevelled, or semi-convex, with edge angle where published by the manufacturer.
- Handle design: Offset, crane, opposing, or symmetrical, with specific measurements.
- Sizes available: All blade lengths offered for each model.
- Country of manufacture: Verified production location, distinguishing between designed-in and made-in where they differ.
- Price guide: Current pricing in six currencies — USD, AUD, GBP, EUR, CAD, and JPY — updated regularly against authorised retailer pricing.
- Verified retailer links: Direct links to authorised sellers, confirmed against manufacturer dealer lists.
The Range of Coverage
The 500 specifications span the full market, from budget 440C student scissors to ultra-premium models using proprietary steels like Mizutani’s Nano Powder Metal and Hikari’s HYS-MAX67. Geographic coverage extends from Seki City workshops to Solingen factories, from Korean OEM production to emerging Chinese manufacturers.
This breadth matters because the scissors market is fragmented. No single retailer carries all brands, and manufacturer websites vary enormously in the level of technical detail they provide. ScissorPedia exists to normalise this information into a consistent, comparable format.
Independent Verification
Every specification is cross-referenced against at least one primary source: manufacturer catalogues, official websites, physical product inspection, or direct manufacturer communication. Where discrepancies exist between sources, we note them. Where manufacturers decline to disclose specific details (steel composition is a common gap), we document what is and is not publicly available.
We do not accept manufacturer-supplied listings at face value. If a brand claims VG-10 steel but the pricing, weight, and hardness specifications suggest otherwise, we investigate further before publishing.
What Comes Next
The database continues to grow as new models launch and previously undocumented brands are added. The next target is comprehensive coverage of the Japanese domestic market, where many excellent scissors remain undocumented in English-language resources.
