About TADAKUNI

Tadakuni Scissors Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a long-established beauty scissors manufacturer founded in 1953 Our History Thank you for visiting our sales website. Tadakuni Scissors Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has been manufacturing and selling professional beauty scissors since its founding in 1953. My grandfather, the founder, was originally a craftsman who made carpentry tools such as chisels and planes. The scissors business began when he once accepted subcontract work to make scissor bodies, but when the client went bankrupt, he received scissor manufacturing tools as payment instead. Later, under my father’s leadership as the second generation, we worked on manufacturing products for many different companies and brands. Now, as the third generation, I have launched our own brand for sale. Tadakuni Scissors are manufactured at “Tadakuni Scissors Manufacturing Co., Ltd.” in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. Our workshop is located near the sea in Tokoname City, which is also home to Chubu International Airport “Centrair,” the gateway to Aichi Prefecture. The city is famous for “Tokoname pottery.” Throughout the city, there are not only workshops but also facilities related to ceramics, making it a town with many craftsmen. Scissors are completed through many manufacturing processes. We handle all processes from design to manufacturing and packaging in-house. Each craftsman is responsible for their specific part of the manufacturing process. There are many steps in scissors manufacturing. First, we cut out parts using “CAD design” and “wire-cut electrical discharge machining,” which precisely cuts metal by passing an electric current through brass wire. The blade material undergoes precision grinding with diamond whetstones, honed to an accuracy of 0.05mm. The finishing process is called “gap adjustment.” The gap between the blades needed for scissors to “cut” is at most just 0.1mm. This adjustment is done entirely by hand. “It’s a repeated process of looking and hammering. How to make these adjustments is where a craftsman demonstrates their skill. This adjustment determines the sharpness and performance.” Please welcome our scissors as your trusted partner. Until now, our company has focused on OEM production for other brands, but we have now launched our own brand exclusively for online sales. The brand logo features “TIII,” symbolizing that I, the third-generation Tadakuni, take responsibility for manufacturing. We offer various handle sizes to accommodate different finger sizes for both men and women. While we provide general size information, we’ve also created a free trial scissors program for those who need to try them first. “We know our scissors better than anyone else.” We’re building a sales system centered on maintenance so our customers can use our products for a long time. We want to continue making scissors that grow as our customers use them. Yukio Isomura, Third-generation Tadakuni, Tadakuni Scissors Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Tadakuni Scissors: Japanese Craftsmanship Excellence

Tadakuni Scissors (忠圀鋏製作所) is a heritage Japanese scissor manufacturer founded in 1953, specializing in high-quality professional hair shears. Based in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, this family-owned business is now in its third generation of craftsmanship. What sets them apart is their complete in-house production system - from initial design through manufacturing to final packaging, ensuring exceptional quality control throughout the entire process.

Key Features & Offerings:

  • Premium Japanese steel construction (V10 gold steel & powder special steel)
  • Hand-crafted scissors with meticulous blade alignment (precision to 0.1mm)
  • Extensive range of sizes (5.5"-8") for both beauty and barber applications
  • Multiple blade types (convex, flat, sword) for different cutting techniques
  • Specialized scissors for regular cutting, thinning, and left-handed stylists
  • Proprietary heat treatment process that enhances durability and edge retention

What Makes Them Special:

  • 70+ years of scissor-making tradition with generational expertise
  • Comprehensive manufacturing control from raw materials to finished product
  • Specialized scissors for specific professional applications (slide cutting, point cutting)
  • Ergonomic handle designs tailored to different hand sizes and cutting styles
  • Complete aftercare service including resharpening and balance adjustment
  • Multiple product lines from entry-level to premium professional models

Personal observation: Having used various Japanese shears over my career, Tadakuni's attention to handle ergonomics is truly outstanding. Their 3D handlest like the M-type significantly reduce hand fatigue during those marathon cutting sessions. I've noticed their V10 steel holds an edge remarkably well - I once used a pair for nealy six months of daily salon work before needing resharpning. Their commitment to full-service maintenance rather than just resharpening helps extend the scissors' lifespan considerably. For stylists who do a lot of slice-cutting techniques, their SW series with the 400R blade curve is extrmely smooth through the hair.
