About Okamiya net shop

Established in 1958, continuously pursuing hair styling scissors beloved by customers. At Okamiya Blade Craftsmanship Research, we have pursued “ease of use” and dedicated ourselves to developing unique technologies. We will continue to create hair styling scissors that bring joy to professionals working in the beauty industry. History & Technological Milestones 1958 Founded as Okamiya Blade Research Institute Featured article about founder Okamiya Tsuruo. Same Year Developed Roller-Type Mobile Scissor Sharpening Machine This became the prototype for the later-sold Mini Coro. (Equipped with a lever that can change angles in 4 stages.) ※No longer in production. 1963 Developed Illuminated Scissor Deflection Gauge A gauge for inspecting and measuring the longitudinal deflection (warping) condition, which is a key point in determining scissor performance. The back blade of the scissors is placed on smooth electrode surfaces divided at 1-centimeter intervals so that it makes contact from the pivot point to the tip, and the screw hole area is pressed down with constant pressure from above. Only the electrodes touched by the scissor’s back blade conduct electricity, causing small light bulbs embedded directly below each electrode to illuminate, allowing observation of the deflection condition (curvature) in each section. ※No longer in production. 1998 Established Okamiya Blade Craftsmanship Research Co., Ltd. with Okamiya Shintaro as President 1991 Released Japan’s first patented scissors with completely contactless ball bearings that open and close extremely smoothly 1991-2001 Successfully created high-tech scissors using ultra-high hardness HRC65 steel, previously thought impossible Industry common sense held that materials with hardness above HRC60 were unsuitable for scissors because they were prone to breaking during adjustment processes and couldn’t achieve good edges, resulting in choppy cutting. However, experimental data proved that increasing hardness creates vastly superior material in terms of wear resistance compared to material differences alone, making it an essential condition for creating scissors with exceptionally long-lasting sharpness. After over ten years of research and development, we succeeded in creating scissors from materials with super hardness HRC65, far exceeding conventional wisdom. (Currently, our products with proprietary high-hardness heat treatment are standardized at HRC64 or higher.) 2018 Patent registration for evolved 3DII screw with completely contactless ball bearings This achieved high durability and enabled stable maintenance of smooth operability. 2020 Developed ultra-precise wave blade processing technology: Super Dense Wave Blade WavePower We developed extremely precise wave blade processing technology that enables cutting performance longevity that far exceeds even the effects of high hardness.

Okamiya Hamono Giken: Japan's Innovation Leader

Okamiya Hamono Giken is a Japanese scissor manufacturer established in 1958, specializing in professional hairdressing and barber scissors. Founded by Okamiya Tsuruo as Okamiya Hamono Research Institute, the company has dedicated over six decades to pursuing "ease of use" through proprietary technology development. Based in Japan, they focus exclusively on creating professional-grade cutting tools for the beauty industry.

Key Features & Offerings:

  • Japan's first patented ball bearing completely non-contact scissors (1991)
  • Super high-hardness HRC65 steel technology (industry first achievement)
  • Ultra-dense wave blade processing technology "WavePower"
  • 3DII screw system with enhanced durability and smooth operation
  • Two-week free trial program for WavePower series
  • Direct manufacturing with in-house research and development

What Makes Them Special:

  • Pioneering hardness levels previously considered impossible (HRC64+ standard)
  • Proprietary ball bearing system for effortless opening and closing
  • Cutting-edge wave blade technology for extended sharpness retention
  • Free trial service allowing stylists to test performance before purchase
  • Comprehensive customer support including on-site visits and consultations
  • Japanese craftsmanship with continuous innovation since 1958

The company's breakthrough achievements include developing scissors with hardness levels that industry experts deemed impossible. Their HRC65 steel scissors overcame the traditional belief that materials harder than HRC60 were unsuitable for scissor manufacturing. This innovation provides exceptional wear resistance and sustained cutting performance.

Personal observation: What really impresses me about Okamiya is their trial program - you can actually test their WavePower series for two weeks at your salon before committing. In my experience, being able to feel how scissors perform during real client work is invaluable. Their ultra-dense wave blade technology genuinely delivers on the promise of longer-lasting sharpness, which means fewer interruptions for maintenance and more consistent results throughout busy days.
