For over 70 years since our founding, we’ve pursued functionality including not only sharpness but also comfort and durability, designing scissors that are simple yet comfortable to use continuously. With these wishes in mind, we continue to create scissors that embody functionality as “tools.” History of Kikui Scissors 1953 - Kiyoji Kikui establishes Kikui Scissors Factory The founder, Kiyoji Kikui (1914-2004), was skilled with his hands from a young age and sharpened and used knives and carpentry tools himself. Once, when asked by an acquaintance to sharpen bonsai scissors, he couldn’t get them to cut properly. This experience fascinated him with the complexity of scissors, and after World War II, he began researching and training in making hair-cutting scissors. In 1953, he founded “Kikui Scissors Factory” in Wakayama. While repairing scissors for local barbershops, he continued developing his own scissors under the brand name “KIKUI SCISSORS.” → Brand Origin Story 1973 - Released the first cobalt-based alloy hair-cutting scissors Cobalt-based alloy, containing about 70% of the rare metal cobalt, never rusts and has excellent wear resistance. Focusing on these advantages early on, founder Kiyoji Kikui developed the world’s first cobalt-based alloy hair-cutting scissors. 2001 - Introduction of made-to-order production system To meet the diverse needs of individual stylists, the manufacturing line was renovated. Previously, they completed 25 scissors of the same type per lot and kept them in inventory, but they established a made-to-order system that arranges various types of scissors according to orders and completes them within one month.
